The power to create depends on people's access to the right tools as close to their home as possible. The reason, for example, why Shenzhen is a hub of creativity, is because the manufacturing tools are locally available. To enable creation of many places like "Shenzhens", people need access to the local equipments.
Usually, the local equipment is hidden inside various local buildings, and not known to exist. Companies sell services rather than tools that they use to create the services. Therefore, even if the equipment is not in use, it is not available for others to use. The examples are many:
- Ultrasound machine is available in most hospitals, but even if it is not used at night, nobody can use it, not even kids with supervision for educational or research purpose.
- Dentistry drills are available in most nights, but nobody can use them at night, nobody can use.
- CNC machines may be not operating at nights, because operators sleep.
- Telescopes, mass spectrometers, etc. may be under-used in universities, because companies don't know about them.
Critically, people don't know the equipment availability in locations and the equipment models, including the specs, and requirements for operator.
The project goal is to make the great power tools universally discoverable and accessible. We would have calendars with work schedules for all machines, so that people can book them, along with required imputs (e.g., adding material, adding human operator, and checking out with credit card or other options).
